Local Action Planning Groups

Involving the community in grass roots projects addressing environmental, water and land management activities across the South Australian Murray Darling Basin is one of the huge successes of our region.

Through Landcare groups, Catchment groups, Land Management groups, Sustainable production groups, Wetlandcare groups and Coastcare groups community members can actively participate in projects and learn more about the natural resource issues affecting our region.

To assist this community engagement The Local Action Planning (LAP) process was established along the River Murray in early 1996.

LAP enables communities, industry and government to work together to address the big issues of environmental degradation in the South Australian Murray-Darling Basin. This helps ensure that strategic regional planning initiatives are translated into on-ground action and that the wider community is involved in protecting and creating a vibrant and healthy landscape and community for our region.

Currently there are eleven Local Action Planning Committees operating within the South Australian Murray-Darling Basin.

Each of these LAPs are able to specifically assist the community, industry groups and other within their area to become aware of or involved in natural resources management specific to their location.

Some things a LAP groups may be able to assist you with are;
  • Planning and project development
  • Sourcing funding
  • Sourcing partnerships with other organisations or industry
  • Access to technical information
  • Access to equipment
  • Running effective community groups
  • To find out how you can get involved in community projects within your area please contact your Local Action Planning Committee.

If you require assistance to locate your nearest local Action Planning Committee contact the general enquiries line of the SA MDB NRM Board 8532 1432.
