Discover how much water is available for human use and where we get water from. Find out how much River Murray water you use every day and develop ways to be more water wise.

 

Curriculum Resource

This Curriculum Resource aims to build on the success of the River Murray Waterwatch program by documenting links to the school curriculum. It will assist teachers in planning their involvement in water education and it also contains valuable information for further investigation into water issues.

Education Sessions

The following education sessions are offered by River Murray Waterwatch and feature in the Curriculum Resource.

There are resource packages available for some sessions, which are designed to assist teachers in delivering several of the Waterwatch education sessions in their own classroom. These packages include Teacher Notes, Fact Sheets, Worksheets and Activities. They can be downloaded from this website or are available from the Regional Coordinators.

 
Critters Galore - Early Years to Middle Years

Learn about aquatic macroinvertebrates and why they are used as indicators of water health. Familiarise yourself with local species by sorting and identifying live specimens. Use your skills to monitor water health at your Waterwatch site.


 
A Frog's Life - Early Years to Middle Years

Investigate the life cycle and features of local frog species found along the River Murray. Learn different techniques for surveying frogs and how to participate in the annual Frog Census.

 


 
River Habitats - Primary Years to Middle Years
Find out what a habitat is, why they are important, the different habitat zones occurring along a watercourse and how to conduct a habitat survey.

The River Murray Story - Early Years to Primary Years
Listen to a short narrative that tells the story of the River Murray as it travels from its source to the sea with the students playing the part of pollutants. Discuss solutions for preventing water pollution.

Learn all about one of the major environmental issues facing Australia, Salinity. Learn about ways that the community can help reduce the impacts of salinity on the River Murray.

Gutter Guardians - Primary Years to Middle Years
Learn about stormwater pollution and the problems that organic pollution can cause in our waterways by conducting your own gutter sweep. Students can also survey local residents or their parents about their knowledge of stormwater issues.

A Snapshot of Water Health - Early Years to Senior Years

Monitor your local waterway by conducting physical, chemical and biological experiments to determine changes in water quality over time. Get involved with specific monitoring events such as Saltwatch and the National Aquatic Snapshot.
