Consumption Tracker

In 2006-07, the Board constructed a spreadsheet to assist you in plotting your meter readings during the period of water restrictions. It is hoped that this tool will help you work out how much water you have available for irrigation as the season progresses. The consumption tracker spreadsheet has recently been updated and a new version is now available. The new version has been simplified a little and now allows you to commence tracking your consumption following input of three key pieces of information.

  1. Your meter reading at the start of this water use year (in kilolitres)
  2. Your authorisation volume (in kilolitres) – supplied to you in a letter from the River Murray Licensing office of the Department of Water, Land and Biodiversity Conservation.
  3. Your normal allocation in an unrestricted year (in kilolitres)
“Consumption Tracker v2.1 Basic” was designed using Microsoft Excel 2002. If you do not have Excel 2002, the spreadsheet may not function properly. You can download the spreadsheet from the site link below.

Instructions

Once you have downloaded the spreadsheet, in order for it to operate correctly, you must ensure that your “Macro Security” settings are set to Medium (recommended) or Low (not recommended). This is because the spreadsheet contains a custom script that alters a graph layout based on the information you enter. If your “Macro Security” setting are set to High, the spreadsheet will not function properly.

STEP 1: Changing your Macro Security settings in Microsoft Excel

Before you open Consumption Tracker version 2.1 Basic, open Microsoft Excel
  • Click the Tools menu and select Macro and then select Security (see below)

  • You should now be looking at the Security dialogue box. Select Medium or Low from the three options and click OK (see below). You are now ready to open the downloaded CONSUMPTION TRACKER v2.1 BASIC.xls file you downloaded from the link above.

  • If you set your Macro Security to Medium, when you open the CONSUMPTION TRACKER v2.1 BASIC.xls file from the link above, you will be prompted to nominate whether to Disable Macros or Enable Macros. You must select Enable Macros (see below) for the spreadsheet and graph to function properly. If you set your Macro Security to Low, you will not be prompted to nominate whether to disable or enable macros, you will just be able to open CONSUMPTION TRACKER v2.1 BASIC.xls and begin using it straight away.
