Floating Flag Program

The floating flag program is a way of raising the awareness of perched water table problems that can occur in some irrigation areas.

Floating flags have been introduced to encourage growers to use Testwells on their own properties to better understand what is happening underneath the ground after they irrigate.  The project intends to demonstrate how irrigation activity can influence perched water tables.

A perched water table problem can arise in areas where clay layers stop the natural leaching process of irrigation water past the root zone of horticultural plantings.

The SA MDB NRM Board in conjunction with the respective Local Action Planning groups is offering to install Floating Flag Testwells on grower's properties within all of the irrigation districts.

 


 

To register your interest for a Testwell to be installed on your property, please contact your local Irrigation Field Officer.

One free Testwell per irrigator is available, if you require more than one Testwell: they are available at a subsidised cost of $100 each.
