Community Wetland Management

The Community Wetland Management Program works with the community to monitor and improve the health of our wetlands.

There is no single way of managing wetlands as they are all different; this is why we use an adaptive management approach. Adaptive Management involves getting to know the wetland and how it is responding to management actions. This is achieved through designing ‘On-going Monitoring Programs’ which are undertaken by community groups and wetland managers with assistance and advice from the staff at SA MDB NRM Board. By monitoring to determine whether the management actions being carried out are having the desired effects on the wetland, managers are able to adapt and change management actions when required.

The wetlands along the River Murray in South Australia are divided into the Upper Murray (Blanchetown to Border) and Lower Murray (Blanchetown to Coorong). Currently 15 wetlands are being monitored in the Upper Murray and 12 in the Lower Murray.
