The River Murray Environmental Manager (RMEM) function was assigned to the South Australian Murray Darling Basin Natural Resource Management Board in October 2005.
The RMEM is the primary decision maker on environmental water within South Australia and has a key advocacy role in Murray-Darling Basin forums. The RMEM coordinates all environmental watering activities within the SA River Murray, including the delivery, allocation and management of environmental water and Living Murray Icon site management. The RMEM also facilitates environmental water donations and encourages community involvement in flow management.
Through the RMEM function the Board will explore all opportunities to continue to harness the tremendous community goodwill towards the River Murray and in doing so deliver significant on ground benefits to the health of the River Murray.
