About the Plan

The draft regional NRM plan sets out (among other things) the SA MDB NRM Board’s goals in relation to natural resources management and a scheme for the implementation of natural resources management programs and policies to achieve an appropriate balance between environmental, social and economic outcomes.

In doing so, it also seeks to foster an approach where ecological systems and catchments are managed as a whole (a landscape approach to natural resources management).

The draft regional NRM plan builds upon existing plans and strategies for the region and extends the considerable work already undertaken to protect, preserve and restore natural resources. The draft regional NRM plan comprises four volumes:

Volume 1: The 10 Year Strategic Plan

The 10 Year Strategic Plan sets the direction for natural resources management and includes the Vision, Long-term and Intermediate Targets and the required actions to achieve the targets. The Strategic Plan is for everyone in the region, not just the SA MDB NRM Board.

Volume 2: The State of the Region Report

The State of the Region Report provides a comprehensive summary of the natural resources of the region, their condition, trends, threats and current methods for managing threats.

Volume 3: The Regulatory and Statutory Framework

The Regulatory and Statutory Framework identifies the water affecting activities for which a permit is required and the matters the SA MDB NRM Board will consider when exercising its power to grant or refuse permits. Volume 3 also includes information about the management of pest species of animals and plants, land management and policies in Development Plans under the Development Act 1993 that apply in the SA MDB NRM Board’s region.

Volume 4: The 3 Year Business Plan

The 3 Year Business Plan outlines the actions to be undertaken by the SA MDB NRM Board and the resources and funds required to undertake those actions.
