Regional Investment

Funding Received in the Region

The Board invests significant amounts of funding into the community through the delivery of National Action Plan for Salinity Water Quality (NAP), Natural Heritage Trust (NHT) and National Landcare (NLP) Programs being combined with the levy raised from land owners and water users, to provide matching funding for community projects.

The high value that the Board places on it's relationships with key stakeholders within the region can be seen in all of the Board's activities.

The Board allocates funding to key priorities as identified in its Natural Resource Management Plan

NRM Levy

Ratepayers and Water License holders pay a levy known as the NRM Levy. The NRM levy is collected, in part, by Local Government and the Department of Water Land and Biodiversity Conservation respectively.

The Board has a commitment to the community to spend the levy in an open and accountable manner that is in line with the Regional Natural Resources Management Plan and across the key program areas.

For more information see the NRM Levy Information page

National Action Plan for Salinity and Water Quality (NAP)

NAP is a joint funding program between the Commonwealth, State and Territory Governments, for regional solutions to salinity and water quality problems. All levels of government, community groups, individual land managers and local businesses work together to tackle salinity and improve water quality.

The goal of NAP is to motivate and enable regional communities to use coordinated and targeted action to:

  • Prevent, stabilise and reverse trends in salinity, particularly dryland salinity, affecting the sustainability of production, the conservation of biological diversity and the viability of our infrastructure
  • Improve water quality and secure reliable allocations for human uses, industry and the environment.

Natural Heritage Trust (NHT)

NHT is an Australian Government funded program to help restore and conserve Australia's environment and natural resources.

NHT delivers important resource condition outcomes including:

  • Improved water quality
  • Less erosion
  • Improved estuarine health
  • Improved vegetation management
  • Improved soil condition

Associated benefits will include improved productivity and profitability, enhanced protection and restoration of biodiversity, and more people taking an active role in improving the management of natural resources, including those who are not directly involved in natural resource management activities.

National Landcare Program (NLP)

NLP Community Support funds local and regional landcare activities consistent with priorities in accredited, regional NRM plans and investment strategies.

It complements the Natural Heritage Trust (NHT) and National Action Plan for Salinity and Water Quality (NAP) and funds community projects. These include ways to combine production and conservation on farms, improve the skills of NRM managers, promote best management practice and better integrate natural resource management into business and property plans.
